Donation to the oldest orphanage in Malaysia - Rumah Anak Yatim Air Itam

Air Itam assemblymember Wong Hon Wai today contributed RM2,000 from his constituency fund towards Wisma Anak Yatim Air Itam, to help out for the losses incurred from a fire which broke out yesterday at its store room. On hand to received the donation was the Wisma's deputy chairman, Datuk Azmi Merican. "We have yet to yet to ascertain the losses," Azmi told reporters present. Wong said the fire started at around 11.10am, and fire brigades from Paya Terubong, Kampung Pisang, Jalan Perak and also Pengkalan Weld rushed to the scene upon being informed of the outbreak. The fire was spotted by a resident of the Wisma, Adli Johari, 13, who immediately inform the management. Wisma Anak Yatim Air Itam was set up in 1955 and presently has 30 boys at its premise.  Orphanage receives funds to rebuild room

WISMA Yatim Islam in Penang, which had its storeroom destroyed in a fire, has received a donation from Air Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai to help it rebuild the room.

Wong gave RM2,000 from his constituency fund.

Persatuan Kebajikan Anak-anak Yatim Islam Pulau Pinang deputy chairman Datuk Azmi Merican said they were grateful to receive the donation.

He said that most of their food, such as rice and sugar, and some clothes and other items stored in the room had been destroyed.

“We must rebuild the storeroom or else there will not be enough space to put the things,” he told a press conference at the orphanage in Air Itam on Wednesday.

He added that the total damage and losses caused by the fire had yet to be determined.

The orphanage supervisor Hassan Samad said that he was alerted about the fire by a 13-year-old resident at about 11.10am on Tuesday.

“He smelt smoke and came to tell me. It took 20 minutes for the firemen to arrive,” he said.

Wong thanked the firefighters from the Paya Terubong fire station and voluntary fire brigade from Paya Terubong, Kampung Pisang, Perak Lane and Weld Quay who helped to put out the fire.

There are 27 boys boarding at the orphanage, said to be the first orphanage in the country.

2千移交阿依淡孤兒院 黃漢偉吁民助修儲藏室

檳城23日訊)阿依淡區州議員黃漢偉移交2000令吉給週二發生火災的阿依淡孤兒院,由該院副主席拿督哈芝梅黎甘接領。

週三上午,也是檳州首席部長政治秘書的黃漢偉探訪該孤兒院並移交支票,他呼籲民眾慷慨捐獻,以協助該孤兒院維修已燒毀的儲藏室。
梅黎說,社會人士如要協助該院重修儲藏室,可撥打04-8288897或到該院了解詳情,地址為173,Jalan Air Itam, 11400 Pulau Pinang。
週二下午一時許,該孤兒院儲藏室突然失火冒出濃煙,幸好及時被撲滅。火災發生時,該院約30名孤兒都在學校上課,只有數名孤兒在樓上睡覺.
